Permit: I Fuckin Hate Them

Yeah, you heard me, “I HATE PERMIT!”. They haunt me. They stick there little tails out of the water and wave them around, giving away their position, almost teasing you to make your move. Then, when your move is made, they do stupid shit like hauling ass before the fly even hits the water.

Last week we gave it our all to try to get a few to eat on camera. It started off too good to be true. First fish, first cast, fish on! Fish off! I checked my leader, which had no fly on it, no curly Q from a bad knot, just a clean break 2 inches from the fly. Was there a nick in the leader? Answer:? Did I pull too hard? Answer: NO So it remains a mystery.

The next few days we remained fishless.

The last light of my last day, it happened. I came tight on a single tailing fish on an abortion of a 20 foot cast. The fish ran off of the flat and into some deeper water. Mitchell motored over to it and I pulled for about five minutes, and then it happened. The hook pulled.

Thats why I hate permit.
