The Matrix Is Down: Drum Beats On!

Posted under fly fishing news by Will Benson

It’s out the door! DRUM officially has a life of it’s own. And not an hour too   soon either.  Dave called me last night and my girlfriend Denny answered the phone while I was making some stir fry. “Oh No!” She said. “You’d better talk with Will.” I didn’t want to know, and was hoping it wasn’t what it turned out to be. “We’re out of commission…done.” Dave said. “It looks like I lost my hard drive.” I almost burnt myself as I stood over the wok and said nothing. “It’s alright though…I sent it out this morning.” I sighed in relief that everything we had just poured our heart and souls into wasn’t lost to the black hole. I quickly thought back to the nearly 14 hour drive we made from New Orleans to Naples with wires running from my truck’s battery to Bear’s inverter powering Dave’s laptop and hard drive. I drove while dave edited across 4 states in order to deliver the new film to Maverick at the Miami Boat Show. The fact that all that effort and lack of sleep wasn’t lost was a huge relief. “So what’s the solution?” I asked. (This is where it really helps to have Dave on the team.) Oh…I’ll probably take a few more rips, walk to the store to geta pack of smokes, and then see if one of my spare drives will boot. Everything’s backed up on eSATA, I’ll just have to reinstall Final Cut and we’re good to go. I’m looking at about 3 days of down time to get it all back up and running. Go back to your stir fry and relax, just thought I’d scare the crap out of you!”

“Thanks Ass@*%e!”

While Dave is neck deep in the Matrix with crazy Joe, I have been lining up a show date here in Key West at the Tropic Cinema. WorldANGLING will be hosting the Drake Fly Fishing Film Tour at the Tropic March 17th at 7:00pm. We will be showing Connected along with the Tour’s films, which includes DRUM. We are very excited to bring this event to Key West and want to assure you that you won’t have to miss a moment of your St. Paddy’s day celebration as the Tropic sells beer!

Now…since dave is out of commission I will have to figure out how to post this on the blog. I have to make sure to size the picture, add the tags, title and links… Here goes. I give myself about a 50-50 shot.

Louisiana Fly Fishing: New Videos In The Works

Posted under Uncategorized, fly fishing news by Will Benson

11:35 pm… Dave and I are up importing footage to edit into our new video DRUM.  Chris and Tom from the Fly Fishing Film Tour are on the phone wondering when we’ll have our project done.  All I care about is where Redzilla lives.

Jeremy Cameron emailed me to let me know he put his new video up on Flies and Fins which is really cool.  And while I was there I saw some others that I had not seen yet.  Kris Suplee, Bob Beighly and others have all been behind the lens shooting fish.  Dig the work boys!  It’s really cool to show people what our passion is and why we live for it. Can’t wait to show ya’ll some DRUM.

Fly Fishing Louisiana Redfish: Notes From A Vanishing Marsh.

Posted under fly fishing reports by Will Benson

Down on the marsh the sun will hang in the afternoon and give the entire landscape a kind of eerie dark orange glow.  It’s beautiful.  There are fires that burn the marsh in the distance and a pile smoldering in the back yard.  Someone adds a burlap sack to the campfire to keep the bugs away while you get a beer.  Things are happening slow because you don’t want to get ahead of yourself.  The barbecue will be ready soon. Relax and let your shoulders down.   Picture the moment you saw the redfish glowing sideways, laying motionless.  Slow…Easy…Cast!

When the weather gets right and the fishing turns on, the marsh comes to life.  Perfect weather to be filming and fishing for monster redfish.  Just ask Conway Bowman and Jose Wejebe who were hanging down on the bayou last week.  It was quite the scene down on Cappy’s dock in the afternoon when we all got off the water.  Big Bear, Travis and Greg Arnold orchestrated the event and I made some cornbread.

I can’t wait to show all of you this so you can see for yourself what Dave and I have been up to during the last month.  But you’ll have to wait until the Fly Fishing Film Tour to see WorldANGLING’S newest work.  Dave is chopping footage as I’m procrastinating by taking  some time off from trying to write something meaningful about Louisiana for the film.  It doesn’t help that on the monitor right next to me is endless fish porn and Capt. Jeff Legutki is laughing at his own reaction to his first monster red.  I think it’s time to take a break and make myself and sandwich.
